Match Reports

Bakewell U15   2-7   Carr Vale Angels U15

For this final game of the season the Angels completely changed their formation. With Gascoyne missing Mapley donned the keeper’s jersey, and Owen and Marriott were in defence as the match got underway. Bakewell started the brighter and forced an early corner which Mapley did well to clear. Carr Vale soon got into the stride and opened the scoring when Wall hit a shot from 25yds which deceived the keeper and nestled into the back of the net. It was all one way traffic now as the Angels began to dominate. Linacre found space on the wing before crossing to Whybrow, whose header beat the keeper but went just wide. Wall made it two when a cross shot bounced high on the hard ground, over the keeper and in. A third soon followed when again Linacre delivered a pinpoint cross into the danger area. Whybrow provided the knock down for Gore to prod home from close range. Bakewell briefly came back into it with a well struck shot from 12yds out. The Angels were soon attacking again with Dickinson and Gore linking up well to find Whybrow who cleverly flicked the ball on for Evill to score from a tight angle. Again Gore and Dickinson combined to release Whybrow who was unlucky to see her shot deflected for a corner. Wall knocked the ball into the danger area where Gore found space for a superb header only to see it crash against the bar and to safety.

The Angels changed keeper for the second half with Alton now between the sticks, and she was soon called upon, diving to her left to keep Bakewell out. The action returned to the other goal as Mapley was unlucky to see her excellent free kick from distance parried over the bar. Whybrow and Evill skilfully worked an opening for the latter, but the shot was deflected wide. Evill was again involved when she quickly closed down the defenders and forced a corner. Owen curled the kick around the diving keeper for number five. Almost immediately the Angels won another corner after good work from Evill. This time Owen’s kick found Whybrow in space and she volleyed home with great technique before the Bakewell keeper had chance to move. The Angels dominance continued as they made it seven, inevitably it was the front two of Whybrow and Evill who were involved. Whybrow rose to win the ball from Mapley’s cross and as it dropped Evill was on it in a flash and drew the keeper before finishing in style. With the game won Carr Vale eased off and allowed Bakewell a late consolation goal following a corner.

Well done girls you have been fantastic all season both on and off the pitch – congratulations for everything you have achieved.

Buxton Warriors U15   1-3 on penalties (2-2AET)   Carr Vale Angels U15

Derbyshire Girls League Cup Final

Both teams started this match tentatively, not wanting to make any early errors and it was some ten minutes into the match before the first strike at goal. The Buxton forward broke clear of the defence but shot wide. The Angels responded with Alton dribbling through before being fouled on the edge of the box. Owen stepped up but the kick was deflected wide. With both sides working hard chances were scarce, although corners were won and cleared at both ends. Whybrow, Marriott and Evill did particularly well in defence to keep the Warriors forwards out of shooting range. As the half wore on Mapley, Gore and Alton found more space but were denied by some fine goalkeeping.

The second half was barely 5 minutes old when Gascoyne threw the ball out to Wall on the right; she raced down the wing beating a defender before crossing into the box where Alton swept the ball home. Linacre and Dickinson came on for Evill and Gore and were soon in the action, linking up to create space for a Mapley shot. The Angels now enjoyed a good spell of pressure with Alton, Wall, Owen and Mapley all denied by the excellent Buxton keeper. Buxton came back with their own attacks and Gascoyne had to be at her best to keep them out. With minutes of normal time remaining Buxton equalised when a hopeful ball into the box was headed home at the back post.

Early in the first period of extra time the Warriors took the lead. The centre forward pounced on a loose ball before finding the net from close range. With time ticking away the Angels equalised with the best goal of the game. Alton laid the ball back to Wall who sidestepped a defender before crossing to the edge of the area where Owen shrugged off her marker before volleying across her body and into the far corner.

With no further goals the game was to be decided on penalties. The girls showed great composure under pressure as Gascoyne saved 3 Buxton kicks and Mapley, Gore and Alton all scored theirs for the Angels to lift the trophy.

Well done girls, a great game to complete a successful season.

Ashbourne U15   2 - 3   Carr Vale Angels U15

Angels come from behind to progress to this years Cup Final.

Carr Vale started the better and were soon testing the Ashbourne keeper who had to save well from Mapley and deal with a series of corners in the first ten minutes. But it was Ashbourne who scored first when Lee and Sears cut through the Angels defence to create space for the latter to score from 12 yds. Within five minutes Ashbourne went further ahead when Sears scored a second after a strong run down the left wing. The Angels responded by forcing numerous corners, all of which Owen placed perfectly in the danger area, with Mapley going closest when her header was cleared off the line. Alton was causing the Ashbourne defence all sorts of problems with her trickery and she won a free kick 25yds out after being brought down. Owen flighted the kick to the back post were Mapley ran in to head home while under pressure from the defender. From Ashbourne’s next attack they won a free kick 20yds from goal. Gascoyne was pleased to see the shot fly past the post. Carr Vale pressed forward looking for an equaliser. Wall’s shot was deflected for a corner and the ball was scrambled clear from the kick. Another corner soon followed, this time Dickinson headed narrowly over. As half time approached another corner was taken which this time led to a goal as the ball deflected off an unlucky defender.

The second half proved to be end to end. Owen had a shot saved after being found in space by Gore. Ashbourne attacked but were denied by Gascoyne diving at the attacker’s feet. From the Angels next attack Linacre won a corner. From the kick Gore raced past a defender to guide the ball home from close range. Carr Vale looked to extend their lead and went close through Alton and Mapley. Evill and Marriott were being called on more and more to keep Ashbourne at bay. As Ashbourne threatened again Dickinson did well to break up the attack. The last ten minutes of the game were all one way traffic as Ashbourne tried everything to find the equaliser. Lee broke clear for Ashbourne and lobbed the keeper, but Whybrow came to the rescue as she raced back to clear off the line. Twice more Ashbourne thought they might score but on each occasion Gascoyne pulled off a great save to deny them. In the end the Angels were relieved to hear the final whistle.

The Angels now meet Buxton Warriors in the Final on 3rd May

Bakewell U15   1-5   Carr Vale Angels U15

The Angels dominated the early possession and created a number of scoring opportunities but were thwarted by some fine saves from the Bakewell goalkeeper. Gore won the ball from a long clearance and laid a pass off to Mapley who ran half the length of the pitch to win a corner. Moments later Linacre found Owen with a throw, she played the ball back to Marriott who beat a player before shooting narrowly wide. From another throw Linacre found Alton in space, her quick pass created the chance to shoot for Owen but the shot was pushed wide of the post by the keeper. From the kick Gore directed a goalbound header only to see the defender clear off the line. Gore was again involved setting up Mapley for a shot which was well saved. The Bakewell keeper brought off a great save to keep out Owen’s 25yd effort. The keeper made another save when Alton looked to have scored following a corner. With five minutes of the half remaining the Angels finally made the breakthrough, from a corner Alton’s shot was blocked and Gore was first to react to smash the ball home from close range.

The Angels almost doubled their lead at the start of the second half. Wall won the ball in midfield and played in Linacre, she played a one two with Owen before crossing into the danger area. Alton brought the ball down and set up Mapley whose shot whizzed past the post. Bakewell responded well and with their best move of the match passed their way up the pitch to create space for the forward to score from 12 yds. Bakewell started to press forward more but this left spaces at the back. Marriott won the ball in midfield before playing in Alton who calmly placed the ball in the bottom corner for the Angel’s second goal. Bakewell won a corner and from the kick the forward fired a shot just wide. Their next attack was broken up by the strong tackling Evill, who having won the ball found Marriott in space, she held off a challenge before finding Mapley whose shot was deflected wide for a corner. Owen’s in-swinging kick struck the foot of the near post and bounced away to safety. Bakewell attacked again but Whybrow cleverly intercepted and played the ball upfield to Owen, she turned and played a great pass between the defenders into the path of Alton who lobbed the onrushing keeper to make it three. All credit to Bakewell who kept their heads up and continued to press forward forcing Dickinson to make a number of important saves. Bakewell almost scored when a free kick from 20yds was whipped over the wall and crashed against the post. The Angels completed the scoring with two late goals from Alton. First when she collected a goal kick and slotted home and the second from close range after a strong run and cross by Mapley.

Buxton Warriors U15   0-3   Carr Vale Angels U15

The Warriors and Angels had already met twice in the league this season, with both teams winning their home games. With the added spice of a top of the table clash the stage was set for a closely fought game.

Angels applied the early pressure with Owen getting behind the defence following a long throw by Whybrow, but her cross was intercepted by the keeper. A long kick by Gascoyne was brought down by Alton before finding Mapley on the wing, who jinked past a defender and fired a shot just over from 18yds. Moments later Linacre set up Mapley to send a fierce shot crashing against the crossbar. Buxton came more into the game and forced the Angels to defend but they could find no way past the strong tackling Evill, Marriott and Whybrow, and Gascoyne in goal was always there to pick up the pieces.

Both teams started the second half looking to gain the upper hand, but it was Buxton who saw more of the ball with the Angels being pushed back. The Warriors were particularly strong on the left side of the attack and Whybrow had to be at her best to minimise the threat from the pacey forwards. Although the Angels were pegged back they were always a threat on the break. Alton and Owen linked up to make space for Mapley whose shot rebounded back off the keeper to safety. With 12 minutes of the half gone the Angels scored the first goal. Dickinson won the ball in midfield and played a long pass out to Mapley, she skipped past the defender before firing in a cross shot which flew over the keeper’s head and into the net. Buxton responded by pushing more players forward but inevitably this left spaces at the back. Carr Vale took advantage on the break and had a number of chances to extend the lead. Gore cleverly set up Owen but the shot was saved. Whybrow brought the ball out of defence and played in Alton but again the keeper pulled off a good save. Alton playing as the lone striker caused Buxton problems all game with her pace and trickery. Her efforts were rewarded with a goal midway through the second half when she latched onto a headed pass from Owen before beating the defender and firing into the bottom corner across the diving keeper. Again Buxton came forward forcing a number of saves from Gascoyne. With ten minutes to go Buxton very nearly scored; the forward found space for a shot which Gascoyne got a hand to but couldn’t stop, the ball rolled onto the post and was cleared to the edge of the box where another Buxton player struck a shot with pace but wide of the goal. With five minutes remaining the Angels sealed the win with a third goal. Gascoyne threw the ball out to Mapley on the half way line, she turned quickly and knocked a pass into the path of Owen who despite the close attention of a number of defenders managed to control the ball and play a delightful lob over the onrushing keeper.

This was a thoroughly entertaining game with both sides playing their part.

Wirksworth Girls U15   1-1   Carr Vale Angels U15

The Angels came into today’s game knowing that a win would secure the League Title for the second season running. Wirksworth had other ideas with a spirited, battling performance that made the Angels look second best for long periods.

Playing up the slope in the first period Carr Vale struggled to find any penetration as the Wirksworth defence dominated. Efforts on goal were restricted to long range shots from Mapley, Gore, Alton and Owen. Wirksworth enjoyed some good spells of pressure, but were kept at bay by the saves of Gascoyne and defensive work of Whybrow and Evill. In the dying moments of the half the first goal of the game went to the Angels; Owen’s corner to the back post was controlled by Mapley as she held off the defender, before volleying home.

The Angels started the second half with more urgency and were soon threatening the Wirksworth goal, but a combination of some fine saves and strong defending prevented any further score. As Carr Vale pressed forward they were caught out by a swift counter attack which saw the Wirksworth forward break clear to slot home the equaliser. Stunned, the Angels midfield of Dickinson, Linacre and Marriott tried everything to carve out an opening but to no avail. As the away side become more and more frustrated the chance of scoring another goal seemed to be further away.

Congratulations Wirksworth for an energetic and determined team performance.

Carr Vale Angels U15  3 – 1 Ashbourne U15

Carr Vale started today’s game the stronger and were soon pressing forward. Mapley released Gore down the wing whose cross into the danger area was cleared for a corner. The Angels enjoyed a spell of sustained pressure but were unable to make the breakthrough against a well organised Ashbourne defence. When the first goal did come it was scored by the away side. The winger broke clear of the Carr Vale defence down the left wing before crossing into the box. The ball held up in the wind and fell to Lee whose shot went in off the post. With a very strong wind blowing throughout the game it was hard for the Angels to get their passing game together. Gascoyne in the Vale goal cleared any long balls with confidence, acting as a sweeper behind the defensive line and starting many attacks with her accurate clearances. The Angels forward line were probing for an opening and when a chance came the Ashbourne keeper saved well from Mapley after good build up play by Gore and Owen. Finally a minute before half time the Angels drew level. Whybrow found Alton with a throw on the right; a quick pass infield was picked up by Gore who switched play to find Mapley in space. Her first touch took her into the box before smashing the ball past the diving keeper.

The second half started with Carr Vale eager to get in front. Linacre side stepped an opponent before finding Owen, she played a first time pass into space for Alton to whip a cross in. Gore was first to react, made space for the shot which flew just over the bar. Ashbourne were always looking for the chance to take the lead themselves with their pacy forwards but Evill and Whybrow were both having an outstanding game, with their strong tackling, reading of the game and covering play. Ten minutes after the re-start the Angels took the lead, Marriott’s quick throw was controlled by Owen on the edge of the penalty area before she fired home a curling shot into the top corner. The strong wind sweeping across the pitch made for a very scrappy game with many stoppages. Midway through the half Ashbourne’s centre forward had to leave the field after receiving a knock to the ankle. With her departure Ashbourne’s attacking threat all but disappeared and the Angels began to totally dominate the game. Another goal seemed inevitable and it came when Owen won the ball in midfield and played it forward to Alton, she held off the defender, controlled the ball and turned and shot in one movement to score from 20yds with a beautiful left footed strike low into the far corner. The Angels pressed forward looking for more goals but were kept at bay by the determined Ashbourne defenders and some excellent saves from the keeper. Mapley, Marriott, Linacre and Gore all had fine efforts either saved or blocked.

Well done girls, this was a very good team performance in difficult conditions against strong opposition.

Carr Vale Angels U15  8 – 0 Wirksworth U15

It had been over a month since the girls last played and both teams were looking forward to today’s match.

The Angels started the better and were soon applying pressure on the Wirksworth goal. Mapley played a 30yd pass for Alton to run onto and fire a shot goalbound which brought a good save from the keeper. Linacre received the ball from Owen before finding Alton down the line, her cross was met by Owen but the ball shaved the wrong side of the post and Gore smashed a shot against the woodwork. The breakthrough came on 12 minutes, Alton and Owen exchanged passes running half the length of the pitch before Owen scored past the advancing keeper. Alton almost made it two when she shot into the side netting from a tight angle. The second came soon afterwards with Alton the provider for Owen to score her second of the match and the Angels hundredth league goal of the season from close range. Alton went close again with a 20yd shot that the impressive Wirksworth keeper did well to save following good link up play between Dickinson and Gore. Wirksworth worked hard to get forward but Whybrow and Evill had things under control at the back and were very often the springboard for the next attack. Mapley added to the score with an accurate right foot shot from the edge of the box after Marriott and Dickinson created an opening. The half ended with two goals for Alton, the first was a cross shot which the keeper was unable to hold and the second after being released by Owen.

Kicking up the hill in the second half the Angels had a long spell of pressure without creating any clear chances, good defending and an excellent performance from the Wirksworth keeper kept Carr Vale out. Gascoyne in the Angels goal was a spectator for most of the half as Wirksworth defended in numbers. Gradually the chances started to come; a free kick from a wide position was whipped into the danger area and cleared for a corner after a goalmouth scramble. Linacre found room for Dickinson to shoot from 25yds out but again the keeper saved. Owen swung over a corner which Alton headed goalwards only to see the keeper tip onto the bar and safety. Dickinson had the ball in the net but it was disallowed as the ball had crept over the bye line before the cross had come in. Marriott made it six with a curling left foot shot inside the far post after fine build up play from Alton and Owen. Dickinson added another when Alton found her 12yds out with time and space to pick her spot. The final goal of the game came when Owen played the ball forward, Alton was first to react and poked the ball into the path of Dickinson who cleverly wrong footed the keeper to score. Well done girls for another great display of attacking team play.

Buxton Wanderers U15  3-11 Carr Vale Angels U15

The girls were up early this morning for a 9.30am kick off at Sterndale Moor to face Buxton Wanderers.

Buxton started the brighter and very nearly scored in the opening minute. The winger created space on the right for a cross which found the centre forward. Gascoyne came off her line quickly and saved at the forwards feet as she tried to get her shot away. The Angels soon gained the upper hand. Alton ran down the wing and played a delightful cross behind the defenders which was cleared for a corner. Owen’s kick was converted at the back post by Mapley. Five minutes later Marriott won the ball in midfield and passed to Gore, she played in Alton who beat the defender before sliding the ball home. A third soon followed when Mapley’s low cross was swept home by Gore. Linacre - who was having a good game - won the ball with a strong tackle and quickly played the ball forward. Alton and Owen interchanged passes before the latter curled a shot past the diving keeper. To their credit Buxton kept working hard and were rewarded when the right winger made a strong run before cutting in and scoring just inside the far post. The Angels came straight back when Evill released Mapley on the wing, she beat the full back before seeing her cross shot float over the keepers head and into the net. The Wanderers pushed forward again and won a corner. The clearance fell to the feet of a Buxton player whose shot found the net through a crowded goalmouth. Dickinson came on for Gore and was soon involved in some good build up play which saw the Angels carving open the Buxton defence without being able to convert any of the many chances. Five minutes before half time Gascoyne was injured making a save and had to leave the field, taking no further part in the game.

With the slope behind them the second half saw the Angels attacking freely. Gore played in Owen whose shot was well saved by the Buxton keeper. Whybrow won the ball before finding Mapley on the wing; she raced past the defender before crossing for Owen to slide in at the back post and score. Owen scored again minutes later when she controlled a clearance before firing home from 20yds. Marriott who was dominating the midfield picked up a pass from Linacre before beating three players to make room for a shot which bounced back off the crossbar. Evill and Whybrow linked up well to create space for Alton to play a through ball for Owen to run onto and toe poke past the onrushing keeper. Mapley added another after Owen had retrieved a ball that seemed to be running out of play. With all players looking to score Carr Vale were caught out at the back when the Buxton winger went on a mazy dribble before scoring in the far corner. Marriott looked certain to score with a 20yd effort but the keeper made a great save to tip the ball onto the bar and away to safety. Mapley completed the scoring, first with a shot low into the corner and then with an identical goal to the first of the match, a tap in at the back post following a corner.

Carr Vale Angels U15  10 – 2  Bakewell U15

Due to a waterlogged pitch at Darley Dale this fixture was switched to North View Street. The Angels started the quicker and soon created a scoring opportunity. Marriott, Mapley and Owen linked up well to release Alton, but her shot was well saved at the near post by the Bakewell keeper. With five minutes gone Linacre found Gore in space whose shot was deflected for a corner. Owen’s kick was aimed for the back post where Mapley to finished from close range. With the Angels on top the chances came thick and fast. Whybrow played in Alton whose square pass was met by Owen but the keeper saved well to her left. Dickinson in goal found Alton with a long kick, she played a one two with Owen before crossing into the box for Owen to score from 10yds. A third goal soon followed, again Dickinson’s distribution was first rate, she found Mapley in space who turned and played v over the defence in one movement for Owen to outpace the defence and score. Bakewell tried to mount an attack but Evill and Whybrow snuffed out the danger before a shooting opportunity appeared. The Bakewell keeper made a great save from Alton after a powerful headed pass by Owen. The Angels made it four soon after, Linacre cleverly linked up with Owen to put Gore through to smash the ball into the roof of the net. As half time approached Alton collected a poor goal kick and passed to Owen in space with time to beat the diving keeper.

The second half started with the Angels on top but Bakewell fought back in determined style. They were rewarded when a fine passing move ended with the centre forward finding space to score. The Angels responded by forcing a corner, the kick was cleared but Alton tackled back to win the ball and play in Owen 25yds out. With only one thing in mind Owen smashed her shot into the top corner. Owen scored again when she picked up a loose ball in midfield and forced her way passed the defenders before sliding the ball home. Bakewell got a second when the forward made a strong run down the left wing before cutting in to score. The Angels came back immediately when Wall played a through pass for Alton to run onto and score. In the last five minutes Carr Vale added two more. First a tap in for Owen after a pinpoint cross from Mapley and then Alton finished from a very tight angle.

Carr Vale Angels U15  3-1 Sheepbridge U15

After last weeks defeat the Angels were looking to get back into winning ways and with inform Sheepbridge as opponents, today’s match was going to be a stern test. The match started at a high tempo with both teams probing for the early opening without really testing the keepers. Just as the Angels were starting to gain the upper hand Sheepbridge took the lead. A long clearance up field found Knapper in space; she broke clear before sliding the ball past the diving Gascoyne. The goal seemed to spur the Angels on with all the team stepping up the pace. Gore and Alton up front chased down lost causes, forcing mistakes from the Sheepbridge defenders and creating chances out of nothing. The midfield of Owen, Dickinson, Linacre and Mapley worked tirelessly and were first to the ball and winning every tackle with determination and skill. The Angels efforts were rewarded when Owen sprung the Sheepbridge offside trap to release Alton, the keeper came out to clear the danger but Alton nicked the ball away from her and passed into an empty net. Sheepbridge were always a threat and were unlucky to see a 20yd effort from the centre forward hit the top of the bar and bounce to safety. Five minutes before half time the Angels took the lead. Alton again chased down the defender forcing a throw deep in the Sheepbridge half. Linacre took the throw and with Owen created space for a cross which found Alton; she spun and jinked her way past the defenders before beating the keeper from 6yds.

Sheepbridge started the second half the brighter and had the territorial advantage but were unable to find a way through as Evill and stand in defender Marriott were organised and working well together to prevent any clear openings. In fact the biggest threat to Gascoyne’s goal was an inswinging corner which she did well to save at the near post. The Angels were struggling to make much headway into the Sheepbridge half as they were executing the offside trap with precision, much to the frustration of the Vale forwards. Gradually the dribbling skills of Alton and Mapley and range of passing from Owen started to penetrate the Sheepbridge defence. Owen slid a delightful pass between the defenders for Mapley to score only for it to be ruled out for offside. Undeterred the Angels pressed forward forcing some excellent saves from the Sheepbridge keeper. As full time approached Carr Vale finally made the game safe when Evill collected the ball in the left back position before finding Owen in space, her pass to Mapley encouraged the shot which Mapley duly fired low and hard into the bottom corner.

Both teams contributed to a great game of football played on a heavy pitch and at times in driving rain, and was a great advertisement for girl’s football and the Derbyshire Girls League.

Buxton Warriors U15 5-4 Carr Vale Angels U15

Today’s game saw the leagues top two teams meet on a very windy cold morning at Sterndale Moor. The Angels started with the wind behind them and soon created some chances. Mapley hit a shot from just inside the opponents half that whistled over the bar and Marriott’s shot was deflected for a corner. The Buxton defence were unable to clear Owen’s accurate kick and in the goalmouth scramble that followed Alton managed to poke the ball home. Carr Vale continued to press and were fortunate to go further ahead when a speculative shot from Mapley bounced over the keeper and into the net. More goals looked likely but the Buxton keeper was having a fine game and made good saves from efforts by Gore, Owen, Alton, Linacre and Marriott. The Angels did go further ahead when another pin point corner found Mapley in space at the back post and she made no mistake from close range. Buxton responded well and against the run of play at this stage in the game broke clear to pull a goal back. With their spirits lifted Buxton came more into the game and scored again to make it 3-2. The game was more even now with chances created at both ends. Marriott went close with a long range effort and Whybrow, Evill and Dickinson were made to work hard by the Buxton forwards.

The second half started with Buxton having the wind and slope advantage, and they made full use of both to apply constant pressure on the Angels goal. Buxton dominated with their players first to the ball and winning the challenges all over the pitch. The equaliser came after good interplay between the Buxton midfield released the centre forward to score. The Angels just couldn’t make any headway and to make matters worse Wall went down injured and was unable to take any further part in the game. Still pushing forward Buxton took the lead when a massive kick downfield by the keeper bounced over Dickinson in goal and into the net. Against the run of play the Angels drew level, a strong run by Alton created space for a pass to Owen who threaded a ball between the defenders for Gore to smash the ball into the roof of the net. The equaliser didn’t change the pattern of the game, Dickinson’s goal was constantly under threat, and although she made some fine saves she was unable to stop the centre forward scoring the winner.

Carr Vale Angels U15 9-2 Wirksworth U15

On a very windy morning at North View Street Carr Vale entertained third placed Wirksworth. With the slope advantage the Angels were soon on the attack and took the lead, albeit with a bit of luck. Wall found Gore whose pass released Mapley, her cross from the left was turned into her own net by the unlucky defender. Carr Vale continued to attack with most moves starting at the back with Evill and Whybrow. Mapley, Linacre, Gore and Owen all had chances but were unable to find the net. Dickinson in goal kept the defenders on their toes and tidied up any loose balls. The Angels had to wait until the last ten minutes of the half to make their superiority tell. Mapley outpaced the defence before crossing from the left. The clearance fell to Owen 12yds out and she made no mistake by smashing the ball home. Straight from the kick off Owen won the ball, passed her way through the defence with the help of Mapley before scoring again. For number four Marriott won the ball in midfield and played a pass out to the wing. Mapley beat the defender for pace before crossing from the bye line. The Wirksworth defence was unable to clear the danger and Owen capitalised by scoring from close range. To complete the first half scoring Wall collected a goal kick and swiftly found Alton, whose first time pass was met by Owen with the outside of her foot to bend it round the keeper.

As the second half got underway Wirksworth were determined to get back into the game and they gained an instant reward when they scored immediately with a well taken goal by the centre forward. The Angels were under pressure for the first time in the match as Wirksworth enjoyed their best spell of possession. Chances were created without really threatening Dickinson’s goal. At the other end Wall had a shot well saved by the keeper after good work by Whybrow and Owen. Evill played in Mapley who beat two players before crossing, only to see the ball cleared for a corner. Then in a ten minute spell the Angels came to life again, with speedy and accurate passing they ripped through the Wirksworth defence to score four more goals. Excellent build up play from Marriott, Linacre and Gore created space for Mapley to finish from 6yds. Owen broke clear of the defence and fired a shot across the keeper onto the inside of the post and in. Owen turned provider when she released Alton to score in the top corner from outside the box. For the last goal Linacre, Owen and Alton passed their way through to give Mapley a simple tap in. Wirksworth completed the scoring when the centre forward poked home in a goalmouth scramble following a free kick.

Carr Vale Angels U15  12-0  Buxton Wanderers

The Angels took a while to get going today but gradually started to apply pressure on the Buxton defence. With 10 minutes gone the breakthrough came, Mapley played a crossfield pass to Owen, who skipped past a defender before crossing into the danger area. Alton reacted first to divert the ball to the back post where Linacre scored from close range. The Angels speed and movement was causing the Wanderers all sorts of problems. Alton broke clear after a pass from Owen only to see her shot deflected wide. From the resulting corner Mapley found room in a ruck of players to head home. Almost immediately Marriott nearly extended the lead but her 25yd shot flashed the wrong side of the post after good build up play from Gore, Mapley and Owen. The Angels did score again when Whybrow found Alton out wide, her cross was dropped by the keeper and Owen was on hand to find the net. It was one way traffic now with the Angels scoring freely. Mapley crossed to the back post where Owen rose above the defence to head home. Wall played in Alton to make it five. Owen found Alton for another and Owen scored just before half time after an Alton shot was saved.

The second half continued as the first had finished, Owen got to the bye line and pulled the ball back for Mapley to score from 8yds. Dickinson in goal kept the Angels defence on their toes and collected any stray passes that came her way. The scoring continued with Alton breaking clear of the defenders to beat the keeper from 12yds and then the same player connected with a pass from Linacre to steer the ball beyond the diving keeper. The Angels changed things around with Wall and Alton dropping into defence and Whybrow pushing forward. The flow of play continued as before when Alton crossed from the right for Owen to place her shot over the keepers head and into the net. And to cap a fine performance Owen raced through on goal after a superb through-ball from Whybrow and blasted the ball straight into the bottom corner.

Ripley Girls U15 0-5 Carr Vale Angels U15

Ripley have struggled to find their form so far this season but proved tougher opponents than the league table would suggest. The opening exchanges were even with first an Angels shot going wide and then Wall covering well to snuff out a Ripley attack. The Angels took the lead on ten minutes, Evill and Mapley linked up on the left before finding Owen, who switched play to the right where Wall smashed a first time shot into the net from 30yds. Ripley pushed forward and won a corner but they were unable to threaten the Vale goal. From the clearance Ripley conceded a throw deep in their own half, Linacre found Owen whose fine cross to the back post was met by Mapley with a bullet header to make it 2-0. Ripley responded well and only an excellent sliding tackle by Evill prevented a clear goal scoring chance. Whybrow showed great pace to break up another Ripley attack down the right and clear the ball to safety. The Angels extended their lead following a throw from Mapley, the ball was played on to Owen from Gore who found Marriott with a square pass across the edge of the box. The keeper got a hand to Marriott’s shot but was unable to keep it out.

The Angels began the second half forcing the pace and pushed forward at every opportunity. Dickinson in goal was a virtual spectator for most of the half. An excellent passing move starting with Whybrow at the back, and involving Wall, Linacre and Owen led to a half chance for Marriott but her shot went narrowly wide. The Angels had a lot of success on the wings with both Mapley and Linacre regularly causing difficulties for the Ripley defence with their accurate crosses. Carr Vale’s attacking play was rewarded when Mapley intercepted a goal kick, played a one two with Owen before drilling the ball into the bottom corner for number four. Many chances came and went before Owen, who initiated many of the Angels attacks scored from 12yds after being played in by Linacre. Ripley started to defend deeper, and although the Angels pressed forward they were unable to add to the score.

Carr Vale Angels U15  6 – 1  Ashbourne U15

Two weeks ago these teams met with the Angels coming out on top. Ashbourne, who were looking to reverse that score line started today’s game the sharper and nearly caught the Angels out in the first five minutes as they pressed forward. Only good covering by Whybrow and Evill prevented a clear shot at goal. Slowly the Angels got into the game and created goal scoring opportunities. A clearance following an Ashbourne corner fell to Gore who cleverly found Owen in space to shoot, only to see the ball flash past the wrong side of the post. Ashbourne responded by forcing a corner but it came to nothing. Gradually the Angels gained the upper hand and started to dominate play, although Ashbourne were always a threat on the break. The breakthrough came when Owen collected a goal kick and knocked it straight back beyond the reach of the retreating keeper. Wall almost made it two forcing the keeper to save from a tight angle after receiving a throw from Alton and going past the defender. Vale forced a number of corners which were delivered with precision by Owen but no one could make a clean connection. Ashbourne again won a corner but were unable to capitalise. Evill broke up another attack and found Linacre to pick out Mapley on the left, she played the ball in field to Alton
